3 Tips to Grow Your School Photography Business

with Beth Jones

1

Have a mission statement that encompasses why you are in business. Every action and decision you make should tie back to it. BJK Photos’ mission is really quite simple: “To make people smile by providing high quality school, sports and event photographs to the families in our local communities.”

2

In order to truly grow, you must first evaluate your current business and be brutally honest with yourself. Conducting a SWOT analysis is the easiest way to do this. It will help you outline your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

3

Pick up the phone and make sales calls. Call reluctance can kill your sales goals in a heartbeat.

Beth Jones is the president and co-owner of BJK Photos, a regional school and sports photography company located in upstate New York. Beth has worked in the volume photography industry for 21 years, where business growth is her passion. Fun fact: Beth owns a photography company, but is not a photographer. She and her business partner, Janet King, work really hard to employ amazing photographers to represent them in the schools and sports leagues. BJK Photos photographs over 50,000 children annually, and streamlining workflows and creating efficiencies is their jam. Beth is currently the president of the board of directors for SPAC, a non-profit group of independent high-volume photographers operated by volunteers committed to the continued growth of the industry through engagement, education and enrichment.
